tea with girls
Last night the boys went out to play soccer with Sparky and the crew. It was so quiet in the house. Kind of lonely.
Quite civilized.
So Alice, Scout, Polly and even Rosebud and myself seized the opportunity to sit and talk and drink tea. Between the five of us we probably drink nine or ten gallons of tea daily. Mostly herbal. Mostly Bengal Spice which in our house we call Bengali Epeechay. It’s complicated but ultimately it’s because Sparky is French.
At any rate, we covered a host of topics in the couple of hours of male-less-ness we had. The topic ranged from weddings, birth, funny and secret things they did as children. Childhood memories, philosophy, food, Catholicism and why we rock because we are Catholic.
Recently we acquired a set of of cards called "Table Topics." These are very helpful conversation starters particularly for people who have difficulty with this type of thing. We actually do not, our family actually has quite a lot of difficulty shutting up, but it is fun to spin conversations off of these cards anyway.
One of the questions was "what's your favourite part of turkey dinner," to which Rosebud replied, "the taste."
I believe the entire transaction between my older daughters and myself was a divine appointment. I believe it was intended for the purpose of teaching Rosebud how to be a girl. Not that she isn't girly, she is actually a pink ballerina fluffball princess who has life very clearly defined in terms of Things Boys Do and Things Girls Do.
But she was learning that one of the most important things about being a girl is drinking tea and giggling and hanging out with your mom while the boys are away.
Thank you my good and faithful daughters and tea drinking friends.
