birth
Ever noticed how birth is a fairly big deal? When a birth goes smoothly, medical people say that it was uneventful. Birth may be a lot of things, but uneventful never has entered my mind after I have given birth. I have noticed that the details of birth are not really a guy thing, though.
Two husbands meet in a mall. They talk about work for a minute, and then one might say, oh, by the way, tell Kathy that Sarah (his wife) had the baby. Oh fabulous, congratulations...wow, I'll tell her! Bye, have a great day! He is so pleased to have something to tell his wife that she will be excited to hear about.
When he gets home to Kathy, after he has been home for nine hours his wife asks him if he could change the baby and he thinks, oh, something about babies.
"Hey, guess what, honey? Sarah Soandso had her baby! I bumped in to Dave at the mall."
Oh! Nice. When? Ah, recently.
Another boy I bet. Ah... maybe. Girl? Possibly. Honey, was it human?
You don't have to get sarcastic.
Anyway. Did everything go okay, anyway? How is she feeling?
"Sure. Everything is fine or he would have told me. Why don't you give her a call. She'd love to hear from you."
She is thinking a billion things. I wonder if she needs anything. Who does baby look like. Is baby nursing well. Does she have support. Is her mother in law there. Does her husband get some time off. Babies smell so good. Oh, my beautiful babies, they are all getting so big. Where has the time gone. Oh I would love to have another baby now.
He's thinking a couple of things. Babies are cool. My wife is going to want another baby.
