three things you learn in 30 years of homeschooling: not even kidding version
When I started homeschooling waaaay back when, I didn’t really know where that was going to lead. I knew I wanted it to be a lifestyle, I knew I wanted to learn alongside my children. What I didn’t know was that I was going to have children into my 40’s and that I would like spending time with them so very much.
And now, I enter my 30th year of homeschool my kids. At this point it’s just “my kid.” Number seven is the only one left at home now.
Go. Me.
So here are the three of the things I’ve learned in the last three decades.
be kind
read a lot
education isn’t about the right curriculum ~ it’s about the right attitude
That’s all for today. But isn’t that enough? Being kind isn’t as easy as it sounds. I don’t even know why. It’s so much better to be kind.
And reading a lot, well. Duh.
And this. There is no “right curriculum” for your child or family or style. Just don’t try to squeeze an individual into a curriculum that doesn’t have any give. Be in charge of your resources, don’t let them boss you around. Don’t let curriculum own you, let whatever you own or use or appreciate play a supporting role in the day to day business of wonder. Kindle the flame of learning with tenderness, joy and love.
And know that I pray for you.
