the lead of the brute

Rosebud calls the rooster the lead of the brute.  What she means is the leader of the brood.  FYI, the boys all call the brood the "brute."  It’s like the chickens are some singular formidable entity.  The Brute.  I find this very comical because chickens are so not-brute-like. I don't correct them because I think it is funny when children say things incorrectly.  I know this is irresponsible of me, but they are all growing up to be literate.

When I was out visiting Scout a few weeks ago, she cornered me and asked me if I knew she says "bolth"  for both.  I said that yes, I knew.  She has said it like that for years.  She asked why I didn't correct her.  I said because I thought it was funny.  Now she says "both" because her peers teased her.

No harm done.                                                  I'm pretty sure.
