roman housewives

I appreciate obscure Saints.  This is because I can't help but think that they must be very eager to intercede for people, when they are little known and don't have too many prayer requests coming their way.  I recently read on my favourite Saint web site that there is a Patron Saint of Roman Housewives.  My first thought, was, hey, cool.  Then, immediately following that thought I said to myself, y'know, Roman Housewives, in the traditional sense of that phrase, don't actually exist anymore and haven't for quite some time.  Saint Frances of Rome probably would appreciate a little more intercessory action to replace all those Housewives that once fell under her patronage.

I suppose there are still Housewives who live in the city of Rome who she intercedes for, and no doubt they are mostly Catholic, but still, on a world wide, outside time and space, all who existed for all eternity level, its a relatively small group of people who may ask her intercession.

Even if, perhaps, every single housewife of Roman descent or who even lived outside the Roman empire but were of Roman extraction, or who live or lived just outside the city limits of Rome, perhaps in the sprawling Roman suburbs which officially aren't actually part of the city, and have become autonomous towns, even if every one of those housewives asked the intercession of Frances of Rome, I still maintain that it is a limited target audience.

So I feel good about asking for her intercession.

St. Anne, St. Martha,  St. Monica and St. Zita are also patrons of housewives and homemakers.  It’s nice to know that we are well covered, by the eager and by the ol' standbys.  We can pray not only our protection and dedication as housewives, but also that they intercede for us when we are about to fall apart when the house is a big mess.  They would understand.
